What is Digital Citizenship?
Digital Citizenship is a code of safe and responsible behavior for the Internet community.  Being a good digital citizen involves practicing good cyber ethics.  Digital citizens should understand the risks and harmful and illegal behavior online and learning how to protect ourselves, and other Internet users, from inappropriate behavior.  Unethical behavior can involve children as being the perpetrators or the victims.  Either case can result in adverse actions.  As children increase their use of the Internet, Digital Citizenship is a critical lesson, especially since poor Internet habits can begin at an early age.

Why is Digital Citizenship important in schools?
Digital Citizenship is not just a single lesson.  Digital Citizenship is cross-curricular and should be practiced throughout every course or content area.  Incorporating Digital Citizenship in every facet of our schools will help to create a partnership between the teachers, students, and parents.  Teachers promote Digital Citizenship at school.  Parents enforce Digital Citizenship at home.  Students should always keep Digital Citizenship in mind when utilizing technology.
